A kind of skin disease called seborrhoeic dermatitis occurs in the body parts, which has lots of sebaceous or greasy glands. The skin in these areas is generally seen with rashes, soreness, inflammation and yellowish or whitish scales. Generally, this disease is seen on the scalp, face and mid part of the chest. At times, it occurs in and outside the ears, as well. The infection is seen to be mild or extensive in each person, depending on his/her immune system.

The parts of the body where the Seborrhoeic dermatitis usually occurs are:

  1. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on Scalp: Here, the disease spreads from a mild, flaky scalp (as if, the scalp had a coating of dandruff) to a reddish, scaly as well as a weeping rash. A variety of this disease, known by the name cradle cap, is seen in infants.
  2. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on Face: The adjacent parts of cheeks, creases near the nose and the inner parts of the eyebrows are the areas that are mainly attacked. Even, the eyelids may become reddened, inflamed and sensitive.
  3. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on Near and in the ears: In some cases, the inflammation occurs behind and inside the ears, and in the outer part of the ear. There are cracks seen on the skin, which often appears to be oozing, and the ears may swell. Inflammation occurring inside the ear canal can cause blockage too.
  4. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on Chest and between the shoulders: Here, they appear to be well-defined and roundish red patches, which are often scaly.
  5. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on Flexures: The moist areas such as the groin, under the breasts, the arms and folds of the abdomen. In kids and infants, the nappy area is the most commonly affected portions.

There are a few treatments, which are capable enough to suppress this seborrhoeic dermatitis. There are no treatments discovered yet that can cure this infection completely. That is why people are often seen suffering for this itching and inflammatory skin disease for years together. The disease has the tendency of coming back, as soon as the treatment is discontinued or stopped for a short period of time. So, it is a must that the treatments are taken continuously for weeks, months or years together.

The treatment should mainly aim in the complete destruction of the yeast, scientifically named as Malassezia. These are found to thrive on the skin. These are solely responsible in causing this irritating and painful disease. So, if you have any symptoms or indications of this disease seborrhoeic dermatitis, then start immediately with a check-up and the needed treatment.
